Q: Why has the Downton Saturday Night Show cancelled?

The downtown portion of the event has been discontinued, and the show has been consolidated into a single-day event on Saturday at Polson Park in Vernon. 

This change reflects current realities for our volunteer-run event. Rising operational costs, limited volunteer capacity, and new municipal requirements — including a formal emergency action plan and certified traffic control plans with trained personnel — have significantly increased the resources required to host a multi-day downtown event. These requirements were introduced following the tragic events at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver and continue to shape how public events are delivered.

In addition, we experienced instances of inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour at the downtown show, which required increased oversight and security measures.

By focusing on a single-day format, we can better manage safety, ensure appropriate conduct, and maintain the high-quality experience our community expects.
